On 30 July 2026, Japan signed an agreement to associate with the Horizon Europe programme. Japanese organisations have been able to apply to participate in the programme’s calls for proposals since the beginning of 2026, thus opening up new opportunities for collaboration for departments at Palacký University as well.
This association relates to Pillar II of the Horizon Europe programme, which focuses on transnational projects addressing global challenges and strengthening European industrial competitiveness. New opportunities for collaboration cover a wide range of areas, including the environment, health, digital technologies and energy.
Japanese research institutions, universities and other organisations may join consortia under similar conditions to those applicable to organisations from Member States and other associated countries, and, where relevant, to coordinate them. In addition to Pillar II, Japanese participants continue to have access to other parts of the programme open to third countries – the Excellent Science pillar, the Innovative Europe pillar and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.
