
The Palacký University Academic Week annually commemorates the re-establishment of Palacký University Olomouc in 1946, when on 21 February the bells of all Olomouc churches rang out in honour of this event. The University regularly organises a number of cultural, scientific and social activities on this date, to which the public is also invited. This year also marks the 450th anniversary of the founding of the university in Olomouc.
Launch of the week-long event Donate Blood with the Rector!

As part of the traditional Academic Week, the annual Donate Blood with the Rector challenge will take place. It aims to support and promote free blood donations. During the week-long event, we invite all Palacký University students and employees to come and donate the most precious thing they have – their blood! First-time donors are especially welcome. In addition, all UP donors can look forward to a small gift package from their alma mater this week. Pub Quiz – Palacký University Special

Whether or not you are a fan of knowledge competitions, do not miss this special episode of the fun pub quiz prepared for you by the UP Communications Office. The theme is obvious – Palacký University and its 450th birthday. Six-person teams composed of students or university employees can register on Facebook, where you can also find information about the rules and prizes.
Awards ceremony for authors of professional books and Rector’s Awards for UP students

At this traditional ceremony, Rector Martin Procházka will personally award authors of academic publications and successful students for the best Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, dissertations, and sports performances in 2022. Meeting of the Palacký University Academic Senate

The regular meeting of the Academic Senate of Palacký University will take place in the middle of the Academic Week, where the senators will symbolically commemorate the anniversary of the reopening of the university.
The Faces of Palacký or Live Creation

Wednesday, 15 February | 6 pm | Palacký University Arts Centre, Podkroví Gallery
Opening of an exhibition of works and a happening where the works will be created. The event is also part of the year-long celebration of the 450th anniversary of Palacký University in Olomouc. Invited artists will create works on the theme of the personality of František Palacký before the viewers’ eyes. The title The Faces of Palacký has been chosen as an abstract concept, encompassing everything that can be even remotely related to the personality of Palacký, Father of the Nation and Czech History. It will be accompanied by a musical programme. Free admission.
Opening Student Holy Mass

Wednesday, February 15 | Church of the Virgin Mary of the Snows
The opening Holy Mass of the summer semester of the 2022/2023 academic year will take place on Wednesday, February 15. It will be held at 7 pm in the Church of the Virgin Mary of the Snows. P. Jiří Hebron SJ will celebrate the Mass. A collection will be taken for the needs of the Vysokoškolské katolické hnutí. After the Mass, you are cordially invited to a get-together at the Aletti Centre.

Festive Holy Mass

Thursday, 16 February | 6 pm | Church of the Virgin Mary of the Snows
As part of the UP Academic Week, Archbishop of Prague and Primate of the Czech Republic Mons. Jan Graubner will celebrate a celebratory Mass. The service will take place in the Baroque Church of the Virgin Mary of the Snows, built in the 18th century by the Jesuits of the University of Olomouc.
UP Representative Ball 2023

The highlight of this year's UP Academic Week will be the UP Representative Ball on Friday, 17 February, which returns to the university's programme of events after two years, among other things, on the occasion of the celebration of the 450th anniversary of the university. Visitors to the ball can look forward to the famous Moondance Orchestra of Martin Kumžák, a dance workshop, a light show, rich refreshments and a raffle. Natálie Tichánková, a member of the Moravian Theatre Olomouc drama troupe, will host the evening. The ball at the NH Collection Congress Olomouc hotel starts at 19:30, and tickets will be on sale from 17 January from 10:00 online at smsticket.cz. Pealing of the Olomouc church bells

Tuesday, 21 February | 3 pm | Olomouc churches
At 3 pm, the bells of Olomouc churches (St Moritz, St Michael, and St Wenceslas) will ring out. Traditionally, they commemorate the event when, on 21 February 1946, Olomouc citizens were told in this way that a law had been passed on the re-establishment of the University of Olomouc, thus restoring their forefathers’ dream of a university town.
