Before arrival

The initial step in the process is to be accepted by Palacký University Olomouc for either studies or scientific research. The university should provide you with an acceptance document, which is necessary for further administrative procedures.

All non-EU students accepted by Palacký University Olomouc are required to apply for either a long-term residence permit for the purpose of studies or scientific research (recommended for degree students) or a long-term visa for the purpose of studies or scientific research (recommended for exchange students).

The main difference between the long-term visa and long-term residence permit is in the lenght of possible validity. The long-term visa can be extended up to maximum of 12 months while long-term residence permit can be extended possibly endlessly (provided you can provide the right documents).

Non-EU students who plan to attend Palacký University Olomouc must submit their application at the Embassy or Consulate General of the Czech Republic abroad (unless stated exceptions), typically in their country of citizenship. Applications cannot be submitted within the Czech Republic, so it is crucial that students do not arrive without having completed the application process.

Obligations for the application at the Embassy or Consulate

Please note that the application process for a long-term residence permit or visa for the purpose of studies or scientific research may take up to 60 days. Once the long-term residence permit application (not the long-term visa) is approved at the Czech Republic Embassy or Consulate General, students will be issued a visa (type D/VR) for the purpose of collecting the residence permit.

It is important to emphasize that all documents must be officially translated into the Czech language and must bear all the required signatures and stamps.
