Abstrakt přednášky: Until recently, the power of Catholicism in Poland was indisputable. Not even 45 years of communism seemed able to weaken it. But the picture has changed drastically, with large scale protests against the role of the Church in Polish society and with younger generations looking a lot more like their Czech neighbours. Where is religion in Poland and the Czech Republic headed, and how can we know? We will look at how research with large scale computer models of human societies allows us to understand and predict social changes. We will also discuss the often painful reality on the ground of how these processes are taking place.
