The European Partnership for Biodiversity, Biodiversa+, launched the Call 2026 international call for proposals on 9 September 2026. The call focuses on transnational research and innovation projects in the field of biodiversity and new ecosystems. Shortened project proposals may be submitted by 10 November 2026; Czech teams may apply for funding from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
The call “Novel ecosystems: biodiversity, socio-ecological consequences and future trajectories – BiodivFuture" aims to support research focusing on the future of biodiversity and novel ecosystems, in line with global sustainability goals. The call for proposals centres on a comprehensive investigation of the causes and consequences of current and future ecological changes in all types of environments worldwide. The main objective is to fund high-quality projects with a strong societal and political impact, which will contribute to a better and more holistic understanding of natural processes.
Supported projects may focus on one or more of the following topics:
- the functioning of new ecosystems and their links to social, cultural and economic processes,
- the pathways leading to the emergence and transformation of new ecosystems,
- the benefits of biodiversity, their equitable distribution and the associated societal impacts.
The call is a two-stage process. Project proposals may be submitted by international consortia comprising at least three eligible partners from at least three participating countries, of which at least two are EU Member States or associated countries.
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA ČR) is involved in this international call alongside the Ministry of the Environment. The rules of the call for Czech applicants are based on the SIGMA programme (Sub-objective 4 – International Cooperation), through which TA CR will provide financial support to successful Czech projects. The total amount of financial support from TA CR for this call for Czech applicants in international projects is 1,000 nbsp;000 EUR, of which a maximum of 170 000 EUR may be allocated to a single project. The maximum permitted funding intensity for the Czech partner in the project is 80 % of the total eligible project costs.
The call for proposals is governed by international rules common to applicants from all participating countries. In addition to the international rules, Czech applicants must also meet the national conditions set by the relevant national funding body. Applicants participating in applied research projects will therefore have to meet national conditions based on the SIGMA programme (Sub-objective 4 – International Cooperation). Czech applicants must participate in projects whose results are applicable within the context of the Czech Republic.

Interested parties may submit short project proposals (so-called “pre-proposals”) by 10 November 2026, 12:00 CET. Please send project proposals by email to ludmila.hrabakova@upol.cz well in advance of the application deadline, by 9 November 2026 at the latest. It is also necessary to submit the faculty’s approval (cover letter). The deadline for submitting full proposals is 16 April 2027
