Applications for the Visegrad Fellowship programme are still being accepted

Wednesday 14 October 2026, 11:56

The International Visegrad Fund offers researchers, PhD students and lecturers the opportunity to receive a scholarship to undertake short stays at a host institution in one of the V4 countries. Fellows may participate in a specific research project, deliver lectures or seminars at university level, or study written or other materials available in public archives and libraries. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but only until the programme’s capacity is exhausted. The deadline for submitting applications is 30 November 2026.

For researchers and PhD students from Palacký University, the programme offers the opportunity to undertake a stay in Poland, Hungary or Slovakia. The University may also host colleagues from other V4 countries and from Ukraine as part of the programme.

Programme conditions

  • The applicant’s country of citizenship and residence at the time of application (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia or Ukraine) must be different from that of the host institution, which must be based in one of the V4 countries.
  • The applicant must be a full-time PhD student or hold a PhD, regardless of their current employment status.
  • The stay must take place in person. Distance-learning research or teaching may only be approved in exceptional cases, where mobility is restricted, and provided that justification is given in both the application and the invitation letter.
  • The stay may last between 2 and 10 weeks, and the proposed duration must be justified in detail.

Funding takes the form of a lump-sum grant of €500 per week. It is paid in two instalments: 80 per cent and 20 per cent of the total amount.

Applications are assessed according to three criteria:

  • the applicant’s academic qualifications and work experience, including publications and a letter of recommendation,
  • the coherence and rationale of the research plan, including planned lectures, presentations and resulting publications,
  • the regional relevance of the topic and the rationale for the choice of host institution.

It is possible to resubmit an application. However, due to capacity constraints, the fund gives priority to applicants who have not yet received funding and, in the case of those who have previously received funding, to those whose proposal builds on previous results or involves a change of host institution or country. The fund also recommends against resubmitting an application within the same funding period.

Applications are submitted electronically via the My Visegrad system during two periods each year: from January to May and from September to November. The next deadline for submitting an application is 30 November 2026 (unless the quota is filled earlier).
