Lecture by the director of the Center for Ibero-American Studies at the Charles University Faculty of Arts, Dr. Radek Buben on the approach of the new US President Donald Trump to the southern neighbors
The rise of Donald Trump, a representative of the new conservative, often pro-evangelical and nativist right, is hitting Latin America at a time when policies of the same type are being promoted or strengthened in a number of countries, from El Salvador, Ecuador to Chile and Argentina. At the same time, new customs barriers and the interruption of existing trade ties are allowing a number of Latin American states to strengthen their economic relations with China, regardless of the political orientation of the given governments. The anti-immigration campaign and the growing confrontation with Venezuela are both awakening waves of traditional anti-American resentment and, conversely, giving wings to a number of his ideological followers.
Come and listen to and discuss all this!
