Interethnic Family Campaign and the Militarization of Multiculturalism in Xinjiang

26. September 2023, 15:00–17:00

Online lecture and discussion

We invite you to an online lecture followed by a discussion on the ethno-religious policies of contemporary China towards the Uyghur minority. Speaker Ruslan Yusupov, who is a social anthropologist at Cornell University, USA, will focus on the “pairing up and becoming family” (jiedui renqin) initiative in which Han majority cadres are required to claim kinship with and live in the homes of Turkic Muslims.

The event is organized as part of the project REMOTE XUAR: Remote Ethnography of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region project. Methodology and Research Capacity Building.
