Long-term Residence Permit for the Purpose of Studies (DV/R)

Where to Apply

Apply in person at a Czech diplomatic mission:

  1. In your home country or the country that issued your passport
  2. In a country where you hold long-term or permanent residence and have legally resided for at least 2 years (for EU countries, only at the visa centre in Dresden)
  3. At any Czech mission if you are a national of a designated country

When to Apply

As the application process can take quite a bit of time (submission, approval, potential delays, etc.), we recommend starting the process 4-6 months prior to your arrival to the Czech Republic.



What to Submit

Upon application you must pay a consular fee 2,500 CZK. For a complete list of consular fees, including exceptions for some countries, please see the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

The processing time after submission is approximately 60 days. You can check the status of your application using the Status of My Application section with the reference number provided during your submission appointment. If your visa is granted, you must collect it at the same diplomatic mission where you submitted your application.


Reporting Arrival

Department for Asylum and Migration Policy

Students who have applied for a long-term residence permit and possess a visa (type D/VR) for the purpose of collecting the residence permit are required to register at the MOI department and attend their first biometric scanning at the Ministry of Interior Offices.

Here's how to report the arrival to the Welcome Office:

  1. Send an email to welcome@upol.cz.
  2. Use "First entry in Czechia" as the subject of the e-mail.
  3. Make sure to include your given and family names, date of birth, nationality, faculty, and the date of your arrival in the Czech Republic.

The Welcome Office will provide you with further information on next steps necessary for registration and biometric scanning at the Ministry of Interior´s Asylum and Migration Politics department in Olomouc.

It is important to note that all matters and communication with students are conducted through university emails (e.g., frantisek.palacky01@upol.cz). Communication through the university email is highly recommended.

Foreign Police

Upon Arrival in Olomouc, students must notify the Foreign Police within 3 working days after arriving in Olomouc.

If you stay in:

  • Private accommodation, you must report your arrival to the Foreign Police in Olomouc within 3 days.
  • Dormitory or hotel, the accommodation provider will handle the reporting, so no action is required on your part.

Here's how to report the arrival to the Foreign Police:

  1. Visit the Foreign Police (Cizinecká policie) in Olomouc and register your arrival.
  2. Remember to bring your identification documents, such as your personal identification card or passport.
