Dear PhD students,

summer has arrived – a time for holidays, rest, and recharging. Yet, as is often the case for PhD students, complete downtime is rare. The summer break is an ideal moment to reflect on your plans for the autumn: where you might travel, where to present your research, and where to draw inspiration from the work of other young scholars. That is why this issue brings you a selection of upcoming conferences and professional events.

Don’t miss your chance to take part in a survey designed specifically for you – doctoral students at UP. Its aim is to understand your needs and help further develop the doctoral community at the university.

And if you are not only doctoral candidates but also graduates of UP – whether from a bachelor’s or master’s programme, or perhaps soon from a doctoral programme – don’t forget to register for the September alumni gathering. It is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with classmates, familiar faces, and new colleagues across disciplines.

We wish you a pleasant and peaceful summer. Take time to rest, regain your energy, and return to the next academic year refreshed, healthy, and ready for new challenges.

Young Researchers of the Faculty of Medicine – MVLF

The MVLF community brings together PhD students and postdocs up to five years after completing their doctorate at the Faculty of Medicine, Palacký University Olomouc. Its aim is to strengthen connections among young researchers across all parts of the faculty – institutes, departments, and clinics – to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, share experience, and develop skills essential for scientific practice.

Over the past two years, MVLF has organised workshops and webinars on technology transfer, grant preparation, science communication, and the use of LinkedIn, as well as sessions related to the Aurora Alliance and Talentovaný Palacký. At the end of May this year, they successfully held the 1st Young Science Conference, featuring a talk on How to Publish by Prof. Jan Hlaváč and a series of threeminute presentations by participants, with two winning contributions receiving financial awards. More events are already planned – follow the MVLF website or their Instagram profile @komunita_mvlf.
