Dear students,

Since the semester has begun in full swing, we have already met at several university events. Take a look at the photo gallery from Monday’s Car-Free Day and Tuesday’s MEET UP festival, which enlivened the Olomouc riverfront despite the autumn weather. Friday’s Researchers’ Night then brought around 12,000 visitors to our university – see the photo gallery and the aftermovie on the university YouTube channel.

This week is dedicated to caring for the body, soul, and society. Under the Fair UP banner, we can still look forward to Thursday’s International Haná Festival and Friday’s Inclusion Day.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT UP

Update: Buildings activated for crisis notifications in UPlikace

Do you already have the UPlikace app, through which you can receive a crisis message targeted to a specific building in case of an emergency at UP? If not, read more and download. If you do, your selected buildings have been updated for the new semester as follows:

On Wednesday 1 October the buildings where you have active classes in STAG during the winter semester were automatically activated for crisis notifications. No buildings from the previous term were automatically removed. You can manually adjust the active buildings at any time in the crisis communication settings (in the “More” menu), i.e., remove those no longer relevant to you (places where you will no longer be present) or add some, such as libraries, canteens, or other UP locations you frequent.

The modern FreshUP+ bistro will replace the uneconomical evening operation of the main canteen

Starting Monday, October 20, the brand-new university bistro at the Josef Jařab dormitory will offer not only the classic FreshUP assortment, but also quick dinners, pizza, pasta, and salads. FreshUP+ will have its own entrance from Šmeralova Street and will be open on weekdays from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The adjacent main canteen will, on the other hand, end its afternoon operation (from 2:30 p.m.). Find out more on the SKM website.

Nominate your favourite teachers for the Teaching Awards UP

Three hundred names – that’s how many personalities students nominated in the first year of the best teacher competition. You can now nominate innovative and inspiring teachers for the second year of the Teaching Awards UP (in Czech). Until the end of October, you will find the “Teacher Award” tile in the evaluation portal, where you can enter a single name in the form. Teachers with the highest number of nominations will move on to the next round. More details in the UP Journal article. (in Czech)

Pick up recycling bags and help conserve resources and nature

Over 50% of waste in university mixed-waste bins could, according to analysis, still be sorted and processed. What can you do? If you live in dorms, you can continue to pick up free returnable bags for sorted waste from accommodation office staff – details on the website.
