Lecture
Beowulf is the first of the most important poetic compositions of English literature. This lecture will discuss the plot of and its contemporary and timeless meaning, construction and stylistic and linguistic features of the piece, especially from a translator's point of view.
Lovers of Old English poetry and those interested in translation have a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the well-known heroic poem Béowulf - the KUP British Centre, in cooperation with the Department of English and American Studies, is organising a lecture by Prof. Jan Čermák, who made Béowulf available to Czech readers through his translation.The lecture will discuss the plot and its contemporary and timeless meaning, the structure and the stylistic and linguistic features of the work, especially from the translator's point of view. It is entitled "The Borrowed World: On Translating Beowulf".
