“Chinese Work” In European Agriculture: Money, People And Materials

15. March 2024, 9:30–17:00

Workshop

Everywhere from Ukraine to Australia and Kazakhstan to Ghana, Chinese investors and farmers lease or buy land, conduct mergers and acquisitions of big agribusinesses, set up small farms, cooperate with scientists, invite workers, and get down to the work of agriculture and food production. These activities are accompanied by – and provoke – public, expert and academic debate, often deeply embedded in numerous myths, suspicions and phobias. The workshop aims to initiate a reflective discussion about the "Chinese presence" in European agriculture.
