Seminar for PhD students
The Doctoral SPace module will host the second seminar entitled Academic Conferences and Where to Find Them? You will be guided through the course by Mgr. Patrik Paštrnák M.A., D.Phil., who is among others a graduate of the Univesity of Oxford.
One of the most important parts of academic life is participation in conferences, symposiums, or various other scholarly conventions. However, graduate or postgraduate students often face difficulties or upright fear in mastering this social events. How to find information about, apply for and effectively spend the conferences? This workshop aims to answer these and other questions regarding academic conventions. In the first part, we will look at the types and modes of participation in these events. Then, various tools for finding the calls for papers will be presented. In the second, more practical part, we will address the proposal and its parts (title, abstract, bio). The participants will have a chance to present and get feedback on their proposals. Finally, we will touch upon techniques of effecting conferencing and share our experience. This seminar is suitable primarily for the PhD students in humanities and social sciences. If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please register.
