The summer semester at Palacký University has begun, which means preparation for the international popular science film festival AFO has also started. As a student of the Department of Theatre and Film, I have also started actively getting ready for this event.
Behind the Scenes of AFO
This year, I will attend the festival not only as a guest (which every student from my department is required to do) but also as a volunteer. Moreover, my participation in the festival will count as part of my internship at the department. Although there is still plenty of time before the festival, preparations have already begun. All staff positions have been assigned, roles are set, and I have already been informed about my position and the location where I will be working.
AFO is a major annual event in Olomouc. Every year, people from all over the world come to showcase their popular science films. Last year, I saw quite a few interesting films, such as Sally, a film about the first female astronaut in the USA, and How Music Plays Us, a documentary about Norwegian musicians. In addition to the screenings, I was also able to attend numerous other activities, including immersive shows, small laboratories with experiments, and much more. I am very excited to see what the festival has in store for us this year.
A Promising Start
Even though the festival hasn’t started yet, I already had the chance to attend a pre-screening of one of the future nominees for the festival’s main award. The film André Is an Idiot left a strong impression on me, and I highly recommend everyone see it during the festival.
I really hope to attend as many festival events as possible and enjoy the experience both as a staff member and as an audience member.
Register for festival accreditation, it’s free, and the experience will be unforgettable.
See you at AFO!
The Ambassador Program of the Welcome Office is an initiative that enables international students at Palacký University Olomouc to engage across all faculties, offering peer support in academic matters, university integration, and cultural exchange. Ambassadors assist fellow students in navigating their studies, adapting to university and city life, and fostering a vibrant multicultural environment. They actively participate in cultural days and events, share best practices, collaborate on projects, and share their academic and personal experiences. Ambassadors also organize social events and facilitate effective communication between students, faculties, and the rectorate of Palacký University. If you are interested in seizing the opportunity to become our next ambassador, you can register here.
