UP Chronicles: Winter Wonders in Olomouc

Dear colleagues, students, and guests of Palacký University!

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 3:00 PM, Prof. Andriy Danylenko (Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Pace University, New York), a famous Ukrainian-American Slavist and translator, will deliver a public lecture on the following topic:

"Do the Parallels Meet? The Vita Constantini and The Fihrist of al-Nadīm on the Origin of Rusian Script"  that deals with the beginnings of Rusian script as attested in the Vita Constantini and the Kitāb al-Fihrist (Liber index, 987–998) by Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq al-Nadīm about the writing of al-rūsiyah (Rus’). Early Slavic, Latin, Greek, and Muslim sources are added to the discussion.

The lecture will take place at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University in Olomouc, in room 1.25, Křížkovského 512/10.
