Before departure

The end of your studies marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life. You can officially conclude your student years by attending the traditional graduation ceremony (promoce). It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your hard work and create fond, lasting memories of your time at the university. However, if you prefer not to attend the formal ceremony, you can simply collect your diploma in person at your faculty´s Student Affairs Office.

When non-EU students finish their studies and plan to permanently leave the Czech Republic, they must complete several mandatory steps to maintain a good legal standing for future EU travel. You are required to settle all local obligations, including closing your bank account and officially deregistering from the municipal waste management fee. Most importantly, you must hand in your long-term residence card at the Ministry of the Interior in exchange for a "Departure Order" (Výjezdní příkaz). You must request this order if you are leaving the country after finishing your studies or if your current residence document has expired. This document legally grants you at least 30 additional days to handle any final urgent matters and safely depart the country. 

Completing these steps ensures you leave in good legal standing, which is crucial if you ever plan to return to the EU in the future. 

After successfully completing your degree, you may want to stay in the Czech Republic to launch your career. The Long-Term Residency Permit for the Purpose of Seeking Employment or Starting a Business is designed specifically for non-EU university graduates and researchers.
