Dear employees,

the first day of the holidays is here. We have just completed a month full of exams, thesis writing, mid-term deadlines, state exams, and graduations. However, we will meet all our graduates—whether they graduated last week or decades ago—again in just two months. On the weekend of September 11–12, we are preparing a large alumni reunion in Olomouc. And since the university never sleeps, we have prepared another edition of the UP Newsletter with current information, reminders, invitations, and calls.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT UP

Occupational safety and fire protection training moves online from July

From July, mandatory periodic training for UP employees in occupational health and safety and fire protection (OHS and FP) will take place online—from your own computer, at a time that suits you. You will receive an invitation by email, complete the course in Moodle, and finish with a short test. In-person training will remain for newly hired employees and managerial staff. Changes to desktop Microsoft Office availability for some UP employees: what changes and what to do

Due to adjustments in Microsoft’s licensing terms, some Palacký University employees with contracts below 1.0 FTE have recently experienced changes in the availability of desktop Microsoft Office applications. For these users, desktop Office applications have been deactivated, and self-service installation via Microsoft 365 is no longer possible.
Importantly, employees with reduced workloads do not lose access to Microsoft Office applications. They can continue using web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other Microsoft 365 services in a web browser. If a desktop version is required on a work computer, employees can contact the network administrator at their faculty or unit. More details can be found in the UP Internal News.

Asian flavors are coming to the canteen

On Thursday, July 16, you can enjoy a special Asian menu in the canteen. Options will include Thai coconut soup Tom Kha Gai, Chinese pork with Dan Dan–inspired noodles, vegan Thai green curry, or beef bulgogi with rice and kimchi coleslaw. This themed menu is being prepared as a response to feedback from recent focus groups (in Czech), where there was demand for a greater representation of international cuisines, especially Asian.

The UP Project Service Bulletin in a new design

The PS UP Informuje Bulletin (in Czech) has a new visual style. It features the ChinGram project, which is transforming Chinese language teaching in Europe, as well as details about the 6th round of the UP Junior Grant. It also introduces the new Industrial Chairs competition and a pilot call for prestigious ERC Plus grants. Take a look at the June issue. (in Czech)

CALLS

We are looking for drivers aged 50+ for research on reactions and neurological conditions

Experts from the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts, UP, and the Olomouc University Hospital are seeking active drivers aged 50–85. They aim to find ways to detect neurological conditions early and help drivers remain safe on the road for as long as possible. Sign up and try selected tests used in traffic psychology assessments, or share this opportunity with someone you know. More information is available on the poster (in Czech) and in the registration form (in Czech).

NEW STANDARDS

  • UP Recognition (Nostrification) Regulations
This internal UP regulation, effective from June 29, 2026, is primarily intended for applicants for recognition (nostrification), staff of the UP Study Department, and faculty study office staff. It aligns the recognition procedure with the current wording of the Higher Education Act.

  • Issuance of documents on completion of studies, internationally recognized courses, lifelong learning programmes, lifelong learning programmes with micro-credentials, and rigorous examination procedures at UP – Amendment No. 4
This amendment to an internal UP regulation, effective from July 7, 2026, is intended for UP employees and participants in lifelong learning. It reflects Act No. 52/2025 Coll., amending the Higher Education Act, which reclassified internationally recognized courses (hereinafter “IRC”) as lifelong learning and repealed Section 60a concerning IRC. Changes affect the title of the regulation, Article 1, Article 2(6) and (8), Article 3, and Article 5 (removal of the term IRC, removal of Section 60a, addition of the term “domestic” higher education institution). Transitional provisions regulate the issuance of new certificates for ongoing IRC.

All UP standards, including the ineffective ones, divided by UP units, with the possibility of filtering and searching in them can be found by students and employees of UP after logging in to files.upol.cz.
