Dear employees,

Today is International Day of Friendship – a day to remember the importance of relationships that enrich, inspire and support us. Friendship knows no boundaries, and this is all the more true in the diverse university environment where the strongest and most valuable bonds can be forged. We believe that friendship is not only a human value, but also the basis for good cooperation, open communication and mutual respect.

Moreover, university life doesn't just stop at work or study – it also brings many opportunities to spend your free time. Whether it's volunteering, cultural and sporting events, or the summer pub quiz and MEET UP festival, where you can get to know the university and make new friends. You can already record all your important dates in the new Academic Diary 2025/2026, waiting for you in UPoint.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT UP

Briefly from the UP management meeting

At the management meeting (July 1), it was discussed that UP had passed the evaluation of the International Evaluation Panel. The new law on cyber security will come into effect in November, and UP is preparing to commission an audit in this area. Read the full summary (in Czech) (after logging in the UP Portal). More detailed information will subsequently be available in the minutes of the management meeting in UPShare, as well as in the minutes of other bodies, in UP standards and documents, and on other information platforms.

Detailed schedule of the IT Service Week (11-15 August)

Necessary regular maintenance and upgrades will require outages of university networks and systems in the second week of August. During the week of Monday, Aug. 11 through Friday, Aug. 15, all UP information systems, including Internet connectivity and single sign-on to information systems, will experience outages from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. A schedule of major and longer-term outages can be found on the UP Portal. (Available in English – switch the language of the UP Portal in the menu in the top right corner.)

DeepSeek products have been identified as a security threat

Based on a warning from the National Cyber and Information Security Bureau, UP is restricting the use of DeepSeek products by direction of the Rector (in Czech) (after login). Their installation and use on work devices (mobile, computer, etc.) that have access to UP's internal information and communication systems is prohibited.

All employees, students and other users are strongly advised not to access the STAG system from their personal devices if they have DeepSeek products installed on them - both via web browser and via the UPlikace mobile app. Please see the UP Portal update for details. (Available in English – switch the language of the UP Portal in the menu in the top right corner.)

Reminder: all academics must inform UP of other employment

Academics have one more month to inform UP of other employment relationships at other defined institutions by August 31, 2025, in accordance with the amendment to the Higher Education Act. This obligation does not apply to work carried out on the basis of so-called non-employment agreements (DPP or DPČ). Details can be found in the news on the UP Portal. (Available in English – switch the language of the UP Portal in the menu in the top right corner.)

Read the new issue of the UP Project Service bulletin

The UP Project Service publishes a monthly e-newsletter with information on news and calls for projects. Read it and find suitable funding for your project or join research and training programmes. The current issue can be found on the UP Project Service website. (in Czech)
