Dear students,

even holidays and tropical temperatures don't mean that life on university stops. Planning, building, cleaning, painting, moving, and preparing for the upcoming academic year is going on everywhere. For example, renovations are in full swing in the dormitories, the Faculty of Law and Education, the Faculty of Health Sciences building on Tr. Svobody and other places. We bring you information about the annual service week, invite you to the September university festival for all and there are also a couple of competitions.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT UP

Briefly from the UP management meeting

At the management meeting (June 17), it was discussed that UP has become part of the global IBM Quantum Network, making state-of-the-art quantum computers and technologies available via the cloud, thanks to a collaboration with CTU. The university is in contact with its students from Iran and Israel. Read the full summary (in Czech) (after logging in to the UP Portal). More detailed information will subsequently be available in the minutes of the management meeting in UPShare, as well as in the minutes of other bodies, in UP standards and documents, and on other information platforms.

UP systems will be unavailable or down for a week in August

The annual Service Week of the UP Computer Centre will take place this year from Monday 11 to Friday 15 August 2025. During this week, the necessary extensive maintenance, updates and upgrades of the University's information networks and systems will take place. Although the UP Computer Center (CVT) staff is attempting to minimize the impact of the interventions on users, there will be significant service outages, unavailability of websites, the UP Portal and related applications, STAG, email, single sign-on, storage, or Internet connectivity in general during the period.

All systems will be completely down for one full day due to upgrades to the backbone switches, and the functionality of the University's information systems will not be guaranteed during the rest of the week.

Therefore, we recommend that you consider the date of the service week when planning for the holiday months and direct important tasks that may be affected by the temporary unavailability of University systems to another date. The CVT team thanks all users for their understanding.
