Dear employees,

we have known for almost a week that this year is not only the anniversary year for the university, but also a record year. The UP has received 35 972 applications for studies (in Czech) – the most in the last 449 years! We would therefore like to thank not only the applicants, but especially the student ambassadors and staff who have been working hard over the past months to spread the reputation of their university at roadshows in secondary schools, 11 fairs across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, 2 open days and in all corners of the internet.

WHAT'S GOING ON AT UP?

Briefly from the UP management meeting

At the last management meeting (15 March), the topics of joint negotiations with the Olomouc Region and the creation of a marketing office were discussed. The website for the elections to the Academic Senate of UP is also being prepared. Read the whole summary (after logging in the UP Portal), we will prepare another one for you in 14 days. More detailed information will be subsequently available in the minutes of the management meeting in UPShare, as well as in the minutes of other bodies, in UP standards and documents and on other information platforms.

Are you having a good time working at UP? The deadline for the questionnaire is approaching

If a sufficient number of UP employees complete this questionnaire, we have a chance to receive financial support for improving the working environment at the university. Thank you to all those who have already completed this questionnaire! If you have not done so, please help us by filling in 29 simple questions for the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. They are about working conditions for parents, chances for career progression, interest in flexible working or workplace relationships. They will give us an insight into the wishes and views of workers so that we can focus our attention in the right direction in the months ahead. For now, responses are open until Sunday 26 March.

Šmeralova Canteen suspends operations from Monday

Students and employees of the University and other diners will not have lunch in the Šmeralova Canteen from Monday 27 March, which is on trial suspension of operations due to cost optimisation by the Administration of Residence Halls and Canteens (SKM). If you visit this canteen and have an order for next week, you will need to re-order your meals at another location, perhaps the main cafeteria next door. See the SKM website for more information (in Czech).

LECTURES & COURSES

How to operate in a time of climate crisis and not forget the future?

Ten thousand years of an environment conducive to the development of human civilization is over. How can we continue to meet our needs while enabling those who will live on this planet after us to have a good quality of life? The much talked about sustainability is the answer. How it relates to climate change, energy or finance will be presented by three experts in three lectures. The first, entitled Back to Earth: solutions to the climate crisis without rose-tinted glasses, will be presented by Tomas Jungwirth on 29 March from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CMTF in room U11. To attend, register on the Lifelong Learning Portal. Further lectures are planned by the Sustainable University for April and May.

Workshop: Meaning at work

Life is too short to spend it in an environment that is not in tune with us. Which factors most influence satisfaction in life and work? In this workshop we will look at how to become aware of our own journey, to recognize what makes sense to us and what we want to develop. We will talk about how to choose a good employer, what to look out for and what can happen if we underestimate. The event is a part of the Window to Practice (in Czech) (Okno do praxe) job fair and will take place on Tuesday, April 4, at 11:15 a.m. in the main building of the Faculty of Arts of UP (17 November 12), room 3.005. Details on the website (in Czech) or Facebook.
