Dear employees,
dear students,

The squares and streets of the university town are filled with the music of street performers in the evenings and later at night the sky comes alive with the Perseid meteor shower. These are the unmistakable signs of summer in full swing, and so our newsletter is in a summery and playful mood. In fact, we invite you to the park for a dance workshop and concert and encourage you to play for others too - we'll help you out a little. We'll ask you how to make life easier for children and their parents who are also in the role of a student or university employee. Finally, you can try your luck in a competition to win tickets to a theatre performance.

Parent at university – how to do it?

How to balance parenthood and student or work life at university? An unavoidable question that no parent – current or future – will miss. We would like to make the confluence of these two worlds as easy and natural as possible at our university. Help us, and ultimately everyone else at UP, to break down as many barriers and pitfalls as possible. Don't keep your suggestions to yourself even if you don't have children (yet). You can fill in the survey here (in Czech).

We are looking for ambassadors for the presentation of UP at trade fairs

Do you want to present Palacký University on a roadshow in Czech and Slovak cities? Do you think you can reach new prospective students at Gaudeamus fairs? Would you like to talk about study opportunities in Olomouc at your high school? Or do you know someone who would be ideally suited for this role? Let them know or write to ondrej.martinek@upol.cz and come to the information meeting at the UP Student Club (courtyard of the Armoury) on 24 August or 26 September at 3 pm. Just as long as you are studying at least in the second year of your Bachelor's degree at one of our faculties and your heart beats for UP!

Zaparkuj fest: a reason to spend an evening in the park

We will not leave the Olomouc parks deserted during this year's holidays either. On Tuesday 23 August, at 6 pm, the university's Zaparkuj (in Czech) initiative will return to Smetana Sady to revive the area around the musical gazebo. This time you can look forward to a dance workshop by Honza Halíř, who will teach you new dance figures. Those who don't feel like dancing can use the chill-out zone Zaparkuj, rent sports and gaming equipment or sink into the university bags and deck chairs. The indie singer-songwriter Evah, who has travelled almost all over the world as a busker, will take care of the pleasant and calm summer atmosphere. Entrance is free, so come and park for a few minutes – or for the whole time! Invite your friends on Facebook.

Let's liven up the city by busking with Zaparkuj

The summer months are the perfect time to show how you can sing, play the guitar, banjo or ukulele, or even juggle five soaps at once. If you want to liven up the city centre with busking or street art, we will be happy to lend you portable sound equipment for free (for the day). Details of the loan can be found here (in Czech). So feel free to take your talents to the streets or parks.

Competition for tickets to the Olomouc Shakespeare Summer

This year UP is also a partner of the Olomouc Shakespeare Summer (in Czech), during which the Tramtarie Theatre performances fill the park of the Konvikt  (UP Arts Centre). Four of you can also enjoy it. If you email us at soutez@upol.cz by Monday, August 15, with your answer to which two faculty are taking up residence at the Konvikt, you have a chance to win two tickets to see the comedy The Three Musketeers. The play will be performed on August 17 and 18, each at 7 pm.
