Dear students,

Today is Children's Day – and because everyone is a child in their own way, we have a gift for you. It's homemade, it won't get dusted, but it's not ice cream, it's another issue of the university-wide newsletter. We're getting practical – find out how not to go hungry in June and over the holidays, or how you can contribute to better teaching. Then we bring you a few invitations, and there's also something else to read and follow. So let there be something for everyone!

Summer opening hours of canteens and bistros & holiday accommodation

From 20 June to 11 September, the operating hours of the canteens and FreshUP bistros will be adjusted. In addition, the annual limited holiday operation will be affected by the renovation of the main canteen and the provision of meals for the participants of the Summer Olympics for Children and Youth in the last week of June. All canteens and bistros will be closed for the week around the July bank holiday. Detailed opening hours of all establishments can be found in the table below.

In addition to meals, the dormitories also offer affordable and comfortable accommodation during the summer holidays. Invite your friends to Olomouc for a few days! In the ideally located campus at Envelopa, you can stay overnight from CZK 450, including a buffet breakfast. In addition, there is a kitchen, gym or sports equipment available. Full information, including a price list, is available on the website skm.upol.cz/leto (in Czech).

Teaching evaluation can't do without you

For three weeks you have the opportunity to anonymously tell your teachers, course supervisors, department and faculty management what you were excited about during the teaching in the semester just ending, or what you think would be worth improving or changing. You can evaluate the courses at eval.upol.cz, which can also be accessed via the tile in the UP Portal. Students at CMTF, FF and PF can evaluate their courses until 30 June 2022, while students at FZV, FTK, PřF and PdF can evaluate their courses until 6 September 2022.

Videos on finding resources, citing and useful library services

Three minutes can determine the success of a thesis. Approximately that is the length of the animated videos from the series "UP Library Advises", prepared by the Communications Office together with the University Library. The five educational films focus on the issues of citation, finding information sources, plagiarism and predatory journals. They also inform about the possibility of using the library's services and tools, which are available to UP students and employees free of charge. The videos can be viewed on the university's YouTube (in Czech) or UPstream (in Czech) platform, where you can also find the first series of animated videos that focus on safety in cyberspace.

The new UP Magazine about talent and helping the world

Did you know that you can meet knights in the corridors of the university? And that the sentence "Four hundred copies of the university magazine weigh two talents" is not necessarily nonsense? These are just two examples that prove that the new issue of the printed UP Journal is packed with information you won't find anywhere else. Pick it up on the racks at the faculties, at UPoint, at the Armoury (Zbrojnice), at the Fort Science – or just browse the electronic version right here and now (in Czech).

The results of the Bike to Work Challenge & public debate on transport

As the May Bike to Work Challenge comes to an end, the 127 UP employees who participated in the challenge have no choice but to log their last rides into the system. We therefore invite not only them, but also all other interested parties to the ceremony where the results will be announced. It will take place on Tuesday, 7 June at the Konvikt and will include a public debate on the topic of Safe Routes to School. This will focus not only on urban cycling but also on other modes of transport. The announcement of the university competition will start at 5 pm, followed an hour later by the results of the Olomouc competition and the final debate will take place at 7 pm. More information on the Sustainable University website (in Czech).

Competition to celebrate the anniversary of the Centre for Students with Special Needs

The Centre for Students with Special Needs helps nearly 400 students from across the University – it aims to improve their study comfort and alleviate any difficulties they may have in their studies. This year it celebrates its 10th birthday in its current form, so we invite you to join us for the celebrations, which are planned for 6 and 7 October. But join them now – by taking part in the How Diverse is Inclusive Palacký University? , in which you will creatively elaborate on your experiences with inclusion. Find inspiration and more information on the Centre's website (in Czech).

Represent UP at the Czech Academic Games

In mid-June, the 20th anniversary year of the Czech Academic Games, the largest student sports event in the Czech Republic, will begin in České Budějovice. The Games, co-organised by the University of South Bohemia, will offer battles for the title of academic champions in 20 sports. The Palacký University representation will of course be present. Read the article on the Journal (in Czech) and if you want to take part in the competitions in Olomouc colours, sign up by 5 June (that is until Sunday).
