For the twenty-eighth time, students have submitted their poetry and prose texts to the Literary Competition for UP students, announced by the Rector of the University. The expert jury, which included Jana Vrajová, Radek Malý and Michal Sýkora, evaluated 126 entries from 120 students. So who won and who was awarded an honourable mention? You can find it together with photos in the article on the UP Journal (in Czech). The winning texts will soon be available to read on the website spisovatele.upol.cz (in Czech), but you can also come and listen to them at the author's reading of the award-winning authors – it will take place on Wednesday, 25 May at 5:00 pm at the Konvikt Park as one of the points of the programme of the Majáles (in Czech).

Did you know that our university could bear the name (in Czech) of Josef Dobrovsky? But in the end – we all know this by now – after its restoration in 1946 it was named after the Moravian František Palacky. This year's evening, which the university is organising in honour of this important historian and politician, will feature Rudy Linka, a Czech jazz guitarist who has lived in the USA since 1985, organiser of the Bohemia JazzFest festival, presenter and world citizen. Come and see his One Man Show Between the Lines... (in Czech) on Tuesday, 31 May at 7 pm in the auditorium of the Faculty of Education.

The fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar is the annual 端午节 holiday. Did you know? If you don't, know that it's the Dragon Boat Festival and that the Confucius Institute UP is planning to celebrate it in Olomouc this year. Come on June 9 to see, but most importantly, to actively participate in the dragon boat competition at Poděbrady lake! You can look forward to training races, the competition itself and the accompanying program organized in cooperation with Academic sport center. Each team must have a captain, a drummer and 9 or 7 crew members. As the deadline is approaching, read the detailed information and go straight to find a team.

Would you like to start learning Czech? Or have you already embarked on this thorny path and are interested in moving on? The Summer School of Slavonic Studies at the UP Faculty of Arts, which will offer an intensive Czech course for everyone from beginners to advanced students from July 16 to August 14, is offering UP students and staff a better price. It is possible to attend either a two-week or a month-long school, which in addition to classes also includes excursions, screenings, folklore evening or sports afternoons.
