Programme details

The second installment of the summer school will focus on cyber and information warfare under international law, examining both aspects of the jus ad bellum and jus in bello. Organised by the Centre for International Humanitarian and Operational Law, the summer school offers an intensive and exciting academic programme for students interested in how international law regulates cyber and information warfare. The summer school will be led by CIHOL members Dr Martin Faix and Dr Marko Svičevič alongside distinguished experts and practitioners, including Professor Nicholas Tsagourias (University of Sheffield), Professor François Delerue (Universidad Instituto de Empresa), JUDr. Tomáš Minárik (National Cyber and Information Security Agency of the Czech Republic) and Prof. José Azeredo Lopes (Catholic University of Portugal). The summer school will examine key issues such as cyber operations and state sovereignty, attribution, the use of force and cyber operations including the role of self-defence in cyber operations, and how cyber operations and information warfare are regulated under international humanitarian law. Through lectures, discussions, and case studies, participants will engage critically with the legal frameworks governing cyber and information warfare under international law. This summer school presents a unique opportunity for students to engage in rigorous debate, professional networking, and a deeper comprehension of the evolving challenges in the digital domain under international law.
