Charakteristika oboru
The single-subject full-time English philology programme consists of a self-contained type of university study on a bachelor's degree level and serves as the foundation for the linked master's degree. The three year study programme systematically develops practical language skills, provides a deeper knowledge of the structure of the contemporary English language on all levels in comparison with Czech, acqaints students with modern English and American literature and finally provides an overview of Anglo-American culture. Students can take specialised courses from other branches at the Department of English and American Studies as part of the required optional courses. A systematic selection in concrete modules allows students to specialise in accordance with their individual interests (1. specialiation in the area of Anglo-American culture or the cultures of other English speaking countries, for example, Irish studies, Canadian studies; 2. module of translating and interpreting; 3. module of English for economics). Graduates are expected to attain the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Annual fee per one academic year: EUR 1500.
Profil a uplatnění absolventa
Graduates from the programme have practical (receptive and productive) language knowledge and skills, a knowledge of the culture of English speaking countries and basic skills in the area of English philology (linguistics and literature). The opportunity to specialise within the framework of mandatory optional courses provides wide possible work applications, for example, in the area of translating and interpreting, culture, diplomacy, foreign relations, business, tourism, administration, publishing , etc.
Požadavky přijímací zkoušky
SPF: a test of study skills with an emphasis on a knowledge of culture, humanities and social science disciplines.
OT: written English language test
The test cannot be substituted for by ANY certificate.
Required knowledge
- a knowledge of English on at least the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- a practical knowledge of the normative grammer of the English language
- a vocabulary corresponding with general situations in language communication
- a general knowledge of culture and history
- The test contains grammar exercises, reading comprehension and questions concerning the culture and history of English speaking countries. The test lasts approximately 60 minutes.
The department offers a preparatory course for interested applicants.
