Options for foreign students who wish to travel to Olomouc to fulfil their study requirements (as of 29 April)

Thursday 30 April 2020, 9:40

The Government of the Czech Republic, in conjunction with the actual situation of the coronavirus pandemic, has amended the rules as of 27 April 2020 for EU citizens and other foreigners to enter the territory of the Czech Republic. This affects foreign students who study at Palacký University Olomouc. The details of when, how, and under what regime and regulations one can travel to the Czech Republic can be found on the webpages of the Czech Ministry of the Interior.

Some of the categories in the above link mention the necessity of announcing your arrival in the Czech Republic to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. This should be done via this online form.

Other necessary forms/documents can be found here.

Recommendations and statement of Palacký University regarding foreign students travelling to Olomouc

UP is asking foreign students, in order to reduce all complications associated with travelling to Olomouc for fulfilling their study requirements, to limit travel to only the most pressing cases, and ideally to manage your obligations so that you can return home within 24 hours, and thus avoid the necessity to undergo COVID-19 testing or be placed in a 14-day quarantine.

If a foreign student wants/needs to be in Olomouc for longer than 24 hours, UP recommends that you take a COVID-19 test at your own expense, in order to be allowed to move freely in Olomouc (observing the prescribed rules).

In cases where foreign students arrive in Olomouc without a negative test and enter mandatory quarantine, they must bear in mind the following:
• Students who were living in the dorms cannot spend the quarantine in their old rooms (with respect to the safety of their fellow students) and must be placed into quarantine rooms. These rooms are very limited in number, and it may occur that not all foreign students will be able to find quarantine rooms at the same time in the dorms. In this case, some will have to wait until the capacity goes down, after 14 days. Before arriving at the dorm, inform the Neředín dormitory supervisor, Mrs Jana Šimková, of the planned date of your arrival ( jana.simkova@upol.cz | +420 585 638 882 | +420 606 398 109).
• If foreign students are living in rented rooms in Olomouc, they must arrange supplies and related matters for the period of quarantine on their own accord. UP can help them only by connecting them with Czech volunteers, who can assist foreign students in quarantine if necessary.
