FINLAND - Summer School in Human Sciences 2018

The University of Jyväskylä is pleased to welcome students to 15th intensive Summer School in Human Sciences offered on May 21 - June 15, 2018. The Jyväskylä Summer School in Human Sciences comprises of 21 interdisciplinary courses for students interested in e.g. art and culture studies, education, sport and health sciences, psychology, communication, social sciences and philosophy or related fields.

Week I: 21 - 25 May 2018

  • Finnish Language and Culture
  • Education in Finland
  • Introduction to Management and Leadership
  • Everyday Life in New Media – Online Ethnography as a Research Method
  • Organization and Role of Sport in the EU and its Member States
  • Approaches and Methods in Systematic Musicology
  • Intrapreneurship: Current Perspectives on New Business Development and Corporate Entrepreneurship

Week II: 28 May - 1 June 2018

  • Finnish Language and Culture
  • Working Models in Domestic Violence Counseling
  • National Education Systems: Foundations, Frameworks, Structures and Experiences
  • Popular Culture and Identity Construction in the US and Finland
  • Physical Activity, Sport, Health and Health Promotion - International Perspectives
  • Introduction to Dance Movement Therapy and other Arts Therapies

How to apply?

The online application form and instructions for completing the application are available at http://r.jyu.fi/hs-summerschool/apply. The application deadline is 1 March 2018. You are welcome to apply for the full summer school programme or parts of it. Each course lasts one week and they are worth 2-5 ECTS credits.

Participants

Students from partner universities all over the world are invited to apply to the Summer School. Also the degree students of the University of Jyväskylä are welcome to join the courses. 

Costs

The University of Jyväskylä does not charge tuition for the courses from students of partner universities collecting eventual tuition fees of their own. There will be a small fee for the social programme. Students are expected to pay for their travel to and from Jyväskylä as well as living expenses and accommodation while in Jyväskylä. 

Teaching staff

The teaching staff of the Summer School consists of professors, researchers and experts from the University of Jyväskylä and from partner universities.

Accommodation

Summer School participants will be accommodated in the apartments of Kortepohja Student Village at about 2.5 kilometers / 1.5 miles from the University. They will each have a furnished study-bedroom with a shared kitchenette and bathroom.

The cost of accommodation is as follows:

4 weeks: 335 €
3 weeks: 295 €
2 weeks: 240 €
1 week: 165 €
