Research projects

Palacký University in Olomouc is involved in a number of research projects - global long-term programmes, monolithic in theme, of research and development. The results of the projects promote research and development activities at the faculties and give research teams long-term perspectives and stability for their work.

Sts. Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology

  • United Europe and Christianity
  • Historical development of sacral architecture in the Olomouc Archdiocese (Moravia and Silesia), the meaning of symbols in art and in liturgy

Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry

  • Molecular aspects of the formation, diagnosis, and treatment of tumours
  • Study of allergies and immune-pathological processes with an inflammatory factor
  • Experimental pharmacology of natural and synthetic agents with cyto-protective, antiphlogistic and cytostatic effects
  • Development of the Medical Faculty Transplant Programme
  • Molecular disorders of saccharide and lipid metabolisms in formation, development and treatment of cardiovascular diseases
  • Pre-conception and prenatal prevention of inborn developmental defects and hereditary diseases and their intra-uterine and postnatal medical solutions. Reducing the risks of multiple pregnancy in the IVF, ET Programme. Ethical, psychological and legal aspects of these states .

  • Development of the structural theory of algebraic and geometrical systems. Theoretical and computational analysis of mathematical patterns
  • Further development of the ornithological laboratory and its international scientific co-operation
  • Chemistry of physiologically active substances. Analysis, synthesis and mechanisms of changes
  • Analysis and synthesis of selected components of terrestrial and water ecosystems in the country/landscape

Faculty of Education

  • Education towards democratic citizenship and European-ness on the verge of a new millennium
  • Research into the somatic and psychological state of the population in the Czech Republic, with special stress on children and young people, with applications in anthropogogy, school, pedagogical and advisory psychology, clinical anthropology and ergonomics

Faculty of Physical Culture

  • Motion activity in human life
  • Optimalization of bio-mechanical models of selected motion activities and functional disorders of the motion system

Promotion of research at tertiary education institutions

As part of the project of ”Promoting Research at Tertiary Education Institutions”, high quality research and scientific centres were established at faculties, serving as basic material and scientific springboards, which co-ordinate the scientific potential for research in which the faculty employees have achieved significant international success.
