As part of the project of ”Promoting Research at Tertiary Education Institutions”, high quality research and scientific centres were established at faculties, serving as basic material and scientific springboards, which co-ordinate the scientific potential for research in which the faculty employees have achieved significant international success.

The Centre for Patristic, Medieval and Renaissance Texts is a research centre of Sts Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology, Palacký University in Olomouc.
The Centre is involved in the study of patristic, medieval and renaissance texts with the aim firstly to prepare editions of as yet unpublished Latin manuscripts linked with the Czech lands and secondly to make important works of European Christian culture available to the Czech professional as well as the general public. The Centre was formed as an interdisciplinary team made up of classical and medieval Latin philologists, philosophers, theologians and historians.

The Research Centre for Optics is a research project, the main purpose of which is to establish a basis for development of modern optics in Czech Republic. This topic has been investigated systematically since 1960 at Palacký University at the Department of Optics, Faculty of Sciences, and Laboratory of Optics, which was in the year 1984 transformed into the Joint Laboratory of Optics of Palacký University and Institute of Physics, Czech Academy of Sciences. In the framework of this project, a new link of the research potentials of PU and Inst. of Physics, which is represented by its Division of Optics in the project, has been established.
Research is concentrated on the fields of quantum optics, fundamental aspects of quantum theory, quantum theory of measurement, quantum cryptography, quantum information and quantum computing. Also methods of classical optics are used and new results are expected in the framework of holography, statistical optics and development of sensors and optical materials.

The Joint Laboratory of Optics is joint research centre of Palacký University in Olomouc and Institute of Physics of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Our division closely collaborates with two another Palacký University sections, Research Centre for Optics and the Department of Optics of Faculty of Science, in classical, nonlinear and quantum optics and also participates in education process of Palacky University undergraduate and graduate students.
